Larry Page, Google co-founder and the 20th richest man in the world, appeared in Motovun on Friday, 12th July, at the wedding of his brother in law McLain Southworth and the bride Yasemin Denari. Page, accompanied by his wife Lucinda Southworth, casually walked through the entrance into the city to the Hotel Kaštel, and only a few discrete bodyguard secured the scene. The groom and the bride, as well as their close family, were accommodated at the Hotel Kaštel, where they have had organized a „rehearsal“ dinner the night before the wedding.
The entire wedding and everything that was happening around it was performed pretty discreetly, and the guests, around 150 of them, were dresses unostentatious.
The Andrea Antico Square was closed, and the wedding organization already began the year before, when they decided to rent it for the 12th July. The information about the arrival of Larry Page was learned just a couple of days before. The wedding was followed with great interest by journalists, photographers and curious tourists who had no idea who the famous guest was. The square was surrounded by transparent curtains, which allowed the observation of the whole event. There were chairs „dressed“ in with cloth set up for quests, and everyone got a handheld sunshade to protect himself from the sun. The floral arrangements were in white and green colors. The traffic regulation was as usual, the tourists were, as every day, entering the city without any problem, while the cafes and restaurants, which are not on the Andrea Antico and Josip Resel square, were working normaly.
The groom McLain Southworth is the son of the former director of the World Bank for South Eastern Europe, through who he was introduced to Croatia. He fell in love with Motovun and, supposedly, his family bought a house here. The decision to get married in the picturesque Istrian town was brought last year, when the preparations started. To raise the „smokescreen“ against the paparazzi, the newlyweds recently announced that they will get married in California. Besides Page, at the wedding was another famous person, a relatively well-known television actress Carrie Southworth, Larry’s wife sister, Lucinda.
