Today hotels occupy a large share of the tourism industry and the way they are managed determines the natural environment in which they are located. In that context, a sustainable business is a way for the hotel industry to get involved in the concern for the environment .
There are numerous ways of applying green business practice. Some of them are: energy efficiency, recycling, green roofs, reducing water consumption … and the goal of these practices is reducing operating costs and the concern for the environment.
Association of Employers in Croatian Hospitality (UPUHH), in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism launched a project “Sustainable business in the hotel industry” in order to define the criteria for sustainable business and raise the competitiveness of Croatian tourism.
Here we would like to point out that the Hotel Kastel is one of the hotels that have applied for sustainable business certification called “Green Hotel”. For registered hotels are organized workshops on green business , and the criteria in collaboration with experts in green business evaluations of the application of good business practices.
